Keeping It Safe: Zanzibar’s New Travel Update

Hey everyone! If you’ve got a trip to Zanzibar on the horizon or you’re currently soaking up the sun on our beautiful beaches, you might see some news circulating about a new health advisory from the government.

Before anyone starts stressing—take a deep breath! There is absolutely no reason to panic or cancel your vacation plans.

Here is the quick, lowdown on what’s happening and why it’s actually a good thing.

What’s the Update?

The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar just released Travel Advisory No. 1 (dated May 20, 2026).

Because the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda recently declared outbreaks of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), Zanzibar is stepping up its game at the borders to make sure the island stays perfectly safe. It’s essentially a shield to keep the good vibes in and the bad bugs out!

What This Means for You (The Quick Cheat Sheet)

If you are flying or sailing into Zanzibar, here is what to expect:

  • Health Screenings for Everyone: When you land or arrive at the seaport, there will be universal health screenings. Don't worry, nobody is poking you with needles—it’s just non-invasive body temperature monitoring (like those thermal scanners).

  • If You Are Arriving From/Transiting Through DRC or Uganda: You will need to truthfully fill out a Traveler’s Surveillance Form before you arrive. You can do it online at https://healthtravelznz.mohz.go.tz or grab a paper copy on your flight/ferry.

  • Standard Safety Stuff: The government is reminding everyone to keep up with basic hygiene—wash your hands, use sanitizer, and just be mindful.

Why This is Actually Great News

It can always sound a bit scary when you see words like "travel advisory" and "outbreak" in the same sentence. But look at it this way: the Zanzibar government is taking health security incredibly seriously. Instead of waiting around, they’ve proactively activated containment measures at all Points of Entry. By catching any potential issues right at the border, they are ensuring that the island remains a safe, carefree paradise for the rest of us to enjoy.

So, pack your sunscreen, practice your Hakuna Matata, and get ready for an amazing trip. The island is open, beautiful, and looking out for you!

Karibu Zanzibar!

Every day I sadly read false and misleading information in various Facebook groups, so for me it's a goal to get more people to move away from those highly unreliable sources and get real facts and information. Then they will have a much better experience when visiting this beautiful island.

And don't forget to check out all the other articles here, updates and new ones are added all the time.
